SUV Rollover Accidents

SUV Rollover AccidentsExperts believe that sport utility vehicles may be more likely to be involved in a rollover accident than other cars due to their high center of gravity. During the 1990s, the Ford Explorer SUV received widespread notoriety after hundreds of individuals died during rollover accidents caused by tire blowouts. However, during that same 10 year period, an additional 12,000+ deaths were blamed on SUV rollover accidents that did not involve tire blowouts.

Dr. Jeffrey Runge, an administrator with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, says that 60% of SUV fatalities and 46% of serious injuries are the result of rollover accidents. These accidents may be caused by a number of problems, including steering wheel defects, safety problems with the vehicle’s construction or design flaws.

SUV Rollver AccidentsFirestone was forced to recall more than six million tires in 2000 and 2001 after they were linked with SUV rollover accidents. However, dozens of SUV recalls have also been issued for the vehicles themselves. These problems have ranged from door problems to cracked engine hoses that could lead to a fire.

Many individuals or their families who were involved in an SUV rollover accident have contacted an attorney about filing an SUV rollover lawsuit. These lawsuits have alleged that the SUV manufacturers failed to alert consumers that they may have been at an increased risk of serious injury or death from an SUV rollover accident due to flaws in the vehicles’ design.
